Best & Worst Lessons at School.

Exactly! What is a 'bear garden'?! Is it next to the chimp's tea party?

Somewhere where they hosted bear-baiting - the Spanish equivalent would be a bull-ring.

There is a bear garden in the Royal Courts of Justice, apparently so named as Queen Victoria (presumably not amused) thought the scenes resembled a crowd watching a bear-baiting.

Cheers! As they say, you learn something new every day!

Althought not at Matt the Shrimp's school. There, the cricket master also taught ancient Greek and Latin.

*scratches head*

Did he? After a fashion, I suppose. One chap who taught me Greek & Latin did a bit of cricket, but wasn't the main cricketing bod by any means. I did have another classics teacher - Geoff Abbott - who was very amusing though. He also taught Stephen Fry, and many of Abbott's quotes have made their way into school legend, as well as Fry's autobiography of that particular time at school (Moab is my Washpot). Those included:

"Sir, do you like television?"

"No I do not. It is run by communists and homosexuals, and the only decent thing on it is the cricket."

***

There was also the classic during summer months:

"Sir, can I take my jacket off?"

"No you bally well can't. It is not a jacket. You are not a potato! It is a coat. It is why in winter, you wear an overcoat - it goes over your coat."

"Sir, can I take my coat off."

"No you may not. This is not some sort of holiday camp."

:D

My fave subject... probably History. I liked all my A-Levels, actually: French, History and Politics.

My least fave subjects... Chemistry & Biology. I was cr@p at both, and the teachers were terrifying. I gave up both as quickly as humanly possible.

:thump:

Electronics was one of my favourites, just chilled out fun with the right ammount of work - and also Business Studies for comedy value (any SHSB know Johnny Rocks?)

Worst was French with Mr Sutherland who was a total legend of a teacher, but ruled kind of by fear! Lower down was never a great fan of history for some reason. Strange that now I love UKTV History... ;)

Good to see many of you have put my specialism as their least favourite. Equally their reasons
1) it was pointless
2) the teacher was dire

I hope neither are true of my lessons or me and that RS is a little better than it once was. It's certainly more relevent in soceity as a whole today - ie understanding other backgrounds and cultures plus the increase in 'spirituality'. Not in the mood for arguing this particualar one at the moment though :)
