All I can say is that I have not seen any independent information to suggest that an embargo is in place . Usually such news creeps out from other sources . For the time being I shall remain in cloud cuckoo land until proved otherwise.

The evidence is largely circumstantial, but compelling nevertheless.

Seems a bit odd that we signed on the likes of Eastwood on a 2 year deal just a month ago and now looking at more financial aggro. Whoever made the decision to sign him must have foreseen any turbulent waters ahead, so I wonder why it was pushed through.

When the transfer was completed it would have been done on whether it could be afforded over the next two years.
Once the season gets going the club brings in more revenue.

The embargo looks to have been caused by temporary cash flow.

This is the same club offering 9m for Matt Jarvis.

50k here or there is peanuts to them, I really dont see them playing games for that sort of money, maybe they just dont think he is worth more than that.

If after looking at him for three weeks they've decided that he's good enough to get a place in their Premier League squad then surely he must by definition be worth more than £150k?

Well that is kind of where I'm going with this comment.....Someone, somewhere must have foreseen this was coming and not thought much of it as it didn't stop us signing a "marquee" player, so I doubt there is anything to be too concerned about, albeit annoying given the goalie situation.

Thats the thing that makes no sense. If he is pemiership quality then he is worth more than that. If he isnt then they must think he has potential, and again worth more than 150k.

Id be surprised if he makes it at that level to be honest in which case West Ham shouldnt even sign him, so not sure why they are offering such a low amount. I think if they saw him as having a chance of playing 1st team anytime soon they would have offered more, they probably see him as much of a gamble as we do.

Indeed from that angle you would think the club see this as a hurdle to get over before the season starts.

@CJPhillips1982: Sturrock - "we might not have all the personnel in place at the moment but fans shouldn't worry. We build as season goes on."

Seems pretty clear we're under an embargo then, what other possible reason is there for not signing a keeper and leaving the clearly not ready Bentley as no. 1? And that's without Sturrock's other comment about taking his time with the trialists - we kick off on Saturday ffs!!!!!!

Let's wait and see. He's not addressed the goalkeeper situation there - could easily be talking about the fact that we're obviously missing a ball-winner in midfield.

It was clear from Friday's comments that Sturrock knows we need to sign a goalkeeper by Saturday.

I asked CP if he had asked the club in the conference if there was an embargo, he said he asked and they said no.

So despite two people with close contacts saying we are under embargo the club are denying we are.

If a keeper isn't signed by the weekend then there will no longer be any doubt on this one, despite what the club claims.....

Don't be silly. We are just waiting for the "right one to come along"

I mean we have only had 12 weeks and a choice of a couple of hundred keepers out of contract.

They are taking there time, to make sure we get the "right one"

No need to panic.

But we've trialed loads of keepers. And, Brown aside - a keeper from hundreds of miles away who would probably require a decent wage to justify relocating - they have all been pants (according to those who have seen them).

In that time we've signed several players.

So yeah, I think the right keeper hasn't come along.

And you think the right one would come along, knowing we were under an embargo (Allegedly of course)??

There are plenty of decent keepers out there, that under normal circumstances we would have signed up by now. Even if it were a short term loan. But as their position is so specialist and limited in terms of guaranteed game time. Anyone half decent is going to want to be assured of a start come next Saturday.

IF we are under an embargo, we cannot offer that security at the moment.

Do you honestly believe we just haven't "found the right one" yet? and would happily start the season with an inexperienced lad?

Anyway, whatever the issue. It needs to be sorted bloody quick.

We signed a whole squad under embargo before, and according to the official line we arent under one.

If a good keeper has a choice between two clubs it may affect his decision, but an unemployed keeper would happily sign for a club under embargo.

What would he have to lose? He doesnt get paid he gets to walk.

Also I don't know what is more concerning. Talk of an embargo, or that it appears we haven't identified or can afford any sort of senior GK, just moments before the season kicks off.

We wouldn't take anyone on a shirt-term loan until the last possible minute. It wouldn't make sense to do so.

We signed both Rhys Evans and Glenn Morris when we were under an embargo so I don't think that it would put the right keeper off.

Of course we wouldn't want to start the season with an inexperienced keeper and having watched Bentley on Friday I certainly hope that we have someone in by Saturday. But it's not like any of the keepers trialed haven't had half a dozen people on here after they've played telling us how **** the guy was. Of all the keepers who we've tried, who was the right one, then?

Oh I agree. But the question is, why have we not identified someone half decent in 12 weeks?

Surely we should of found someone by now, who could at least fill in for a couple of games?

Rhys Taylor would of done for me. But hey I'm not the manager.

Im sure it would be harder to sign someone to fill in for a couple of games than to get a keeper in with embargos going on.

What keeper would take himself off the shelf just for a few weeks?
