Billy Paynter

...and Tilson let David Bryan go. How could anyone do that with all that FM knowledge under his belt?!

wow.gif

Clarke.. busted his balls out of position in midfield.. slated as sh!te.. now rated better than Sodje
Paytner.. coming back from injury after playing a dozen games with a defence that I could have got into.. slated as sh!te................
Differences being JCR and Clarke either looked promising or came with good references :

Jcr - Has been frustrating but shown his potential from the beginning.

Clarke - Was poor in defence to start with too, but came with great feedback from his former club.

Paynter - Hasnt shown any real promise at all yet, nor was he rated by Hull supporters. Hasnt shown a good touch, looks slow, doesnt win the ball much for a big bloke.

Im hoping now the team play better he gets another chance and does better for the clubs sake, and for his own.

A bit like Carl Emberson supposedly being engaged to Steve Wignall's daughter rumour when Wignall's daughter was 13!!!
But he was from Col******r, so it could easily have been true.

Good.

Why can't we just let him go now!

I think he will turn out like Greame Jones! Go from crap to even crappier!

that's a very partial comment if you don't mind me saying. . From what I remember they said he hadn't shown much though he was very hard working and brought others into the game and was a chance maker rather than taker. The consensus was if you brought him as a goal scorer you'll be disappointed but he will make chances.

Amen to your last point however.

The difference of course is that Paynter has been struggling in a struggling Championship team. Greame Jones(sic) struggled in an average League Two team. And Paynter is ten years younger than Jones was, hardly evidence to sell him for 10K.

I haven't rated him so far but I've seen what has happened to the likes of Clarke and JCR and hold out some hope for the lad, so I will certainly be supporting him if he takes the field on Saturday, as obviously every true Southend fan should.

Im sure many a donkey has been brought by clubs on the receiving end of just one memorable disply. I'm not a Paynter fan, I appreciate that he is young and may be one for the future... but ... we are not Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool who can fork out £200,000 for a player to forfill himself in the reserves for a couple of years. We are Southend and for that amount of cash we need instant payback. I would imagine that Hull bit our arm off when we went in with that offer. Perhaps they would buy him back with their Fagan money.

Recently read an article by the Pompey striker Benjami who admitted he found it difficult to settle in last season and had an absolute nightmare in most games, missing open goals, tap ins, etcetc. The only thing that pulled him through was the continual support the fans gave him week in, week out, always encouraging him and never getting on his back and this was when the team was struggling. This season has seen a cosiderable improvement in his performances and he has scored some crucial goals.
The point of this post is if the 'fickle' section of our support did the same with Paynter and 1 or 2 others, then this could make the difference of whether they play with confidence or just go through the motions.
Personally if i was a player and heard the crowd boo or jeer me when my name was announced or when i came off the pitch i'd think 'bollocks to you all'.

A cracking answer.

Let's support the team.

£200K wasted.

Need i say more?

He's like an expensive Greame Jones!
Thats a very definitive statement based on 7 games.

Just think what you would be saying about Freddy if you had only seen his last few games!

Im not saying Paynter is any good, so far I havent seen anything to make me think he will do well, however its too early for such damning statements surely ?

TTK, royfox and MC Blues seem to criticise players way too much. Get behind them for Christ's sake. If you all had your way we wouldnt be able to field a side with the "let's get rid" statements. I really hope Paynter sticks the criticism he gets up all your arses like JCR did on New Years Day.

Support Paynter, and support the team. He's only 22, and used properly (i.e. not a target man) he could prove to be a good player for this club. If you want to waste the 250K, sell him for nothing now, but if you want a good investment give him the best oppurtunity to repay us. If you dont, he wont. Simple as that.

Well done, now someone is talking sense! the only times we have seen him play, he has been paired with Eastwood and he has been used as a target man for Eastwood to play off of and that is not the role he is used to. He needs to play with a target man (i.e Harrold) so he can be given the freedom to run with the ball at his feet and create chances for himself rather than having the ball lumped up to him in the air. GIVE THE LAD A CHANCE!! if he is used properly then he shall come good.

Good point. We are a small club with limited funds. We can't afford to buy people for this sort of money who can't pull their weight. Bloody hell he's 22 not 18!

You have named me in your post, so can you please remind me which players I have ever criticised?

Many thanks.
