Birri FC managed a 2-1 away win with 10 men against the bottom side.

Southey F.C - Birri FC 1 - 2

Date: 12/21/2003 at 18:00
MatchID: 10452165
Arena: Southey F.C Arena
Crowd: 3894

A scorching day at Southey F.C Arena, where 3894 spectators were in place for today´s match. Southey had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Lawrence - Evans, Fuller, Carvalho, Merrill - Potter, Daniels, Seetharamam, Starr - Malone, Mackay.

Birri tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Krishnan - Ward, Breuilly, Regan - Camden, Hutton, Cathcart, Humphries, Verma - Pownall, Perry.

Southey had a good opportunity to take the lead as Sean Mackay came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Gopikrishna Krishnan. Lee Breuilly unexpectedly struck an inside out ball from no angle at all, and Art Camden forwarded it into goal for 0 - 1 Southeys David Daniels got himself booked after a foul. The referee showed Birris Alfred Humphries the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Southey were forced to a substitution as Danny Evans couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Christopher Goldsmith to come in from the sidelines. The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. Southey held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.

Southey evened the score out after a penalty brilliantly laid by Ricky Lawrence. Southey tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but kept getting stuck on the visitors defenders. Christopher Goldsmith didn´t pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. This was a good period for the visitors with several opportunities to take the lead, in particular when Art Camden slipped through the defense to come up alone with Ricky Lawrence - but the home side´s keeper showed some lightning reflex Art Camden of Birri received a yellow card in the 74:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The game was close to savage at times, and Birri`s Alfred Humphries received a second yellow card in the 76:th, his ticket out of the game. Southey were forced to a substitution as Steve Malone couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Martin Brew to come in from the sidelines. After 78 minutes Birri put themselves up by 1 - 2 as Tim Perry finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post. Southey held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.

Southey´s best player was David Daniels. Matthew Merrill on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Birri player was without a doubt Lee Breuilly. Dharsasatman Verma on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 2.

The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 in the 34:th by a breakthrough from Bonnand Jourdain, who unaided came in out of the right wing hooking the ball over the visitors keeper. A well placed corner kick from Nicholas Clarkson was followed by Miguel Ángel Álvarez´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for Gambero. The result now 2-0. In the 38:th minute Gambero´s Ross Lasurt tried to nail the coffin shut, but the shot rebounded off the bar to fall behind the net. A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 41 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Gambero. However, Oswald Baltaze made a spectacular save. In the 44:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Miguel Ángel Álvarez dashed through, knocking home 3 - 0 for Gambero. The structure of the game started to change as Gambero decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. The teams went for a half-time break at 3 - 0. The most dominating Gambero player was without a doubt Denny Hayes. Ross Lasurt was a disappointment, however. The most dominating McKies player was without a doubt Lee MacKenzie. Jon Crombie was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 0.

Sadin - The Shrimpers  1 - 4

Date:  12/21/2003 at 18:00
MatchID:  10451493
Arena:  Sadin Arena
Crowd:  6075

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 6075 to Sadin Arena. Sadin tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. They fielded: Donaldson - Moyse, Margerum, Hunwick, Drury - Fursdon, Bhandari, MacKnight, Latimer - Collins, Coleman.

Shrimpers started off with a 3-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Clune - Ivy, Charles, Hughes - Mason, McGovern, Anthony, Ankcorn - Axford, Curtis.

Man, what a shot by Alan Hughes! Firing from 35 yards he didn't give the enemy goalie a chance and it was 0 - 1. The game had been on for 3 minutes when Alan Axford broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. Shrimpers´s were up 0 - 2. Shrimpers had obvious problems in finding their positions. In the 11th minute the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Alan Axford finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Barrett Ankcorn was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the enemy box - Alan Axford managed to kick one of them into 0 - 4 in the 38:th minute. This third goal made a hat trick for Alan Axford. The structure of the game started to change as Shrimpers decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. The home side attempted to get through in the middle and had a good chance of pulling one back as Mark Collins tried lifting the ball over goalie Jimmy Clune. Typically, the ball went just over the bar. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Sadin´s Danny Margerum got himself booked. In the games 41st minute Tam Anthony recieved a blow to the hip due to a collision, and was unable to continue. Shrimpers had made all their substitutions, and were forced to go on with a reduced lineup. 0 - 4 was the half-time score. Sadin, bringing the final ball possession rate to 72 percent, dominated the battle.

The Shrimpers players spent the half-time break getting a rerun of the teams tactical organization. Venkatathipathi Bhandari was very close to reducing for Sadin in the 60:th minute, but the visitors right back got his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking to a corner. Shrimpers seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team. Sadin didn´t give in and in the 83rd minute Mark Collins was able to put the 1 - 4 goal away after a play from the right. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Sadin, with an impressive 71 percent possession of the ball.

Most important Sadin player was Brian Fursdon. Steven MacKnight was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Shrimpers player was without a doubt Joseph Curtis. Alan Hughes was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 4.

Looks like you played the whole match with only 10 men. I guess one of your defenders was either suspended or injuryed prior to the game and you did not change the lineup. However not a bad result considering.

I tend to just ignore him in the hope he'll go away (yep, it could be FM!).  The match in which they announced we were 'cr*p' was a 4-0 win for us with 75/82% possession!

BTW, my statement earlier was incorrect, we played the 3rd placed team last week, we play the top team this week.  Level on points so a win would be delightful.
