Because he's continually making an arse of himself.
Doing the usual run through Saturday's columns, this piece caught my eye if not for the incendiary headline: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article7119988.ece
Choice pull-put quotes include:
It might not have been, you know, if you'd done your job and vetted potential owners properly.
No, you usually wait till teams are outside of the Premier League before they're cast into administration, or at the very least flirt with it. I also wouldn't say you run "your" league like this, because most of the clubs are crippled with huge levels of debt.
They've continued to deliver success courtesy of Ferguson's eye for talent and assembling a steady squad, not because the Glazer's have funded it. Of course you don't feel the genuine concerns of United fans, you don't support the club or hold the consequences of a leveraged buy-out close to your heart. I wouldn't say that amounting almost £800m worth of debt, leading to annual interest payments of £30m+ is the business of "one of the best-run clubs in the world" either...
And speaking of the 39th game...
The difference being that the NBA play a meaningless, pre-season game here, the annual NFL game played at Wembley isn't exactly held in the highest esteem by fans in the US and these are all competitions that are vastly commercialised anyway. Clubs already go on expansive tours of the far-east and the US in order to boost their personal income, do you really think the people of Singapore will take to Wigan vs Sunderland?

“The Portsmouth thing, going into administration, was almost inevitable,”

"But if people think after the Portsmouth case that all clubs are like this, it’s a shame and it’s a disservice to football. We don’t run our league like this."

From a football point of view, Manchester United have continued to deliver huge success since the Glazers came in. I understand the pain of the green-and-gold brigade — I hear it, I read it — but I don’t feel it. Manchester United is absolutely one of the best-run clubs in the world. If you take a step back from the emotiveness of it, it’s a fantastic job they [the Glazers] have done.

“Two years ago it withered on the vine of public opinion. If it comes back, it will be in a different guise and there might be some demand for it. The NFL are playing games over here. The Italians are playing games abroad, the NBA, MLB.”
