Iirc Basildon was also being talked about by Orient.
I seem to recall one of either the Rubins or VJ mentioning Telford as well.
I think the idea of being beholden to the supporters for the ground seemed to get to our past chairmen

I might even consider stalking Ron , and nagging him the same way my mother does. maybe if I stick it on him enough times he will get soo wound up with me that he might even ask wonga for a payday loan to complete the project - they rarely say no right?:happy::hilarious::hilarious:

Follow him round shouting "LETS GO RON" it worked for Shannon Briggs he kept shouting "LETS GO CHAMP" to David Haye and he's managed to get a fight with him out of it.

Vic first started talking about a new stadium in the 1980s.

When I left School My first job working was working in the planning dept at Southend Borough Council, I was only there for a year or so - but I distinctly remember they used to have a scale model of our 'proposed' new stadium in the reception area, and that was circa 1986 !!!

It it was a bit like a mini version of the old Wembley, so who'd have guessed that 30 years later still no stadium...

:dim:

Does anyone else remember the graffiti on some hoardings in the High Street opposite WH Smiths?

It read

"The only one moving to Basildon is Jobson"

There is some news footage filmed at RH just after the Hillsborough tragedy In 1989. The reason they came to RH was because we were about to move from our relatively modern stadium (1955) to a new all seater. A good example for the rest of football to follow.

I will have to dig it out from my mums loft, but I think its the programme from the FAC 3rd round replay with QPR in 1975. There is an article about Southend's future. We had plans to build a new all seater West stand, with a lovely new roof etc. At the time, the artist impression of our new stand would have had some nice people with long haired men in flares and Chelsea boots just getting into their brand new top of the range Ford Capri.......Successful go getters....following a successful club that was definitely going places.

I dont know if thats briilant or sad, I can't recall what happened last week !

HA....I remember a sit in we had in the East Stand in the 80's after a match demonstrating against the Basildon move. I was quite proud of the banner I had made for the occasion. It read.....'Vic gets up yer nose'....

British land are not a part of SOUTHEND UNITED they are just helping building the new stadium shops and so on .Maybe its they who have brought the collage .

True it doesn't seem to rule out British Land but it would be strange if the Echo hadn't asked that question.

Summary from the Guardian - apologies if it repeats what was said above in that live feed, but mentions British Land:

The UK’s construction industry suffered its worst performance in seven years last month following a collapse in new orders. The Markit Cips construction managers’ index survey fell to 46 in June from 51.2 in May - below the 50 threshold which separates growth from contraction – for the first time since April 2013. Sentiment in the - housing market was blamed for most of the fall in activity. Shares in Britain’s biggest property developers and builders tumbled yesterday as investors digested the implications for revenues and profits of a freeze in new homes being built after the latest run of projects reaches completion. British Land fell more than 7% to 564p, while Persimmon, Barratt Developments and Berkeley Holdings fell 6%.
