Was it not Guiggsy (Paul McGuigan)? I thought he was one of the longer-standing members of the band, along with Bonehead on rhythm guitar... it's the drummers they kept falling out with (as well as each other, obviously).

That's the fella, Guigsy was ill with 'nervous exhaustion' so he came in to cover. He appeared in the Wonderwall video and went off on tour to the States with them (one of the times it all went tits up and either Liam or Noel or possibly even both stormed off) and he decided it was all too much and walked away.

Guigsy then came back into the band for the UK tour - his first gig back in fact was the Leicester one that I went to.

On a similair vein - who was the only member of The Beatles to ever actually see them play live, where was it and how come?
