My take on tonights game+our support

Exactly my point, Tony. We have people in one part of the ground claiming that the atmosphere was awesome whilst others elsewhere complain that it was almost non-existent. If the design of the new stadium can appreciate and converge acoustics then the problems of Roots Hall will be avoided?

Stevie Hammell.

Thought our fans did well tonight best atmos for a while in east yellow/blue..

Does **** me off hearing the away fans be so loud though..

Can someone have a word with Uncle Ron and get that roof taken off the North? We wont hear em then and the bastards will get wet in the rain too!!

I absolutely loved the atmosphere tonight. At 3-1 down we were pretty much silent but what can you expect when you have conceded three goals at home and your side have offered nothing in the second half?

Also, I'm pretty sure that Paul McVeigh is a striker and that Norwich were playing 4-4-2. Not sure where all the talk of 4-5-1 came from except towards the end where they played like that to try and win some second balls.

Anyway, you can only judge your area of the ground for atmosphere IMO and that tongiht was better than the Sunderland game.

The noise levels in the south upper were at times fantastic....

Up there with some of the best I have heard.

What a cracking night!!

Atmosphere was superb all round, apart from when Norwich equalised & for a little while after. I have a sore throat this evening which is being soothed by a large glass of Jim Beam Black, & I don't usually get too vocal at games!!

Maher was superb (I'm not a big Maher fan), even when they scored he was the only running his nuts off & giving it 110%. His head never dropped for a minute, which dragged a few more heads up & made a difference.

Its easy to pick out negatives, e.g. we couldn't win a header against a Willy Wonka works XI, certain players try fancy passes when not required etc etc, but there were so many positives. Maher I've mentioned. Francis is quality (needs to practice his passing though!) Matt Harrold looks a very good signing & has the ability to win headers & hold the ball up. Hooper has potential & a bit of the necessary nasty streak too. Most of all the team spirit is still there, even if certain players are out of form (Gutts especially)

I'm just gutted I won't be at WBA on Saturday, as I've organised a cricket match in, of all places, Norwich, this weekend. Guess who will be wearing his shirt with pride in Norwich this weekend.

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!

First point...atmosphere tonight. Well a couple of notes ...sitting in the West Stand X block.. Naarawich fans made more noise when they were 1.0 down.... after 3.2 the West Bank started to made some noise.. 3.3 everyone went mad.... All I can say I was sitting next to an Arsenal fan and he said Southend fans created a better atmosphere tonight than Arsenal have done so far in their new ground and was very impressed

But Hey WHAT A GAME :-)

this is why I LOVE SOUTHEND UNITED FC

What a come back... and Im ****ed

One Team IN a Very HOT Essex

I agree with much of what you say, but lets remember that that "half-pint" is possibly the best striker in the division. You can see why he's scored goals whoever he has played for. What a player.

As for the atmosphere, I thought it was ok. We're never going to out-sing 2,000 away fans.

For MOTM, I thought that Kev played well, but I'd give it to Stevie Hammell. Scored a great goal and set up so many chances with his passing and forward-movement. I'd put Matty Harrold up there too, even if he only played a third of the match.

Yep, I'll happily concede that point.

I was in the RBS and it was the best atmosphere in a long time. The fans were superb and as you'll see in my report, I credit a lot of the comeback to them.

Best atmosphere for ages - but only once we'd got it back to 3-2. Roots Hall was then rocking like it hasn't for ages, but the support first half was terrible. We went 1-0 up and the crowd went dead and the only noise was then the whinging whenever anyone played a bad ball.

Totally agree - all you could hear for a time was the whinging!! Its awful and sooo fickle!!

If our support did lift them tonight imagine what the Discussing and groaning does for them eh?!!

Not that I support the moaners and groaners, but you could argue the Discussing and groaning did the job. 3-1 down and on the rocks, passes all going to yellow shirts, a bit of Discussing and groaning, and suddenly we are back in it.

Would be interested to hear a players view. Maye a bit of Discussing and groaning makes the try harder.

I tend to believe the substitutions had slightly more bearing on the result but, hey, I'm a crazy guy, I have some crazy ideas.

I was in south lower.. and there were some great kids sitting back row non-stop trying to get songs going ( they must have only been about 15 but they understood that there was no atmosphere, and if no one else would try they were going to die trying themselfs) I no alot of people will give kids stick for starting songs but there was about 13 of them and got a good couple of songs going. Well done lads... Up the blues..

Shrimptank usually starts most of the songs at the back of the RBS but he had his baby with him tonight so couldn't, we (the crowd) needed a spark and the free kick was certainly that, the atmos after that was superb and i'm sure the players picked up on it

Yes we were quiet, until the free kick went in from hammel then i thought the noise was fantastic, truly thought it spurred the boys on.

I think the turning point in the crowd was when we were denied a penalty for a save by their centre half. With the crowd incensed the atmosphere rose and became intimidating. Tilly triple sub further pushes on the crowd and then the free kick from Hammell to send us wild. 25 minutes of frenzied atmosphere later and you'd almost felt like we'd just won the FA Cup with that equaliser!!
