Southend get ground boost

Southend United's plans for a new ground have moved a step closer with the go ahead given for a major development to the east of the town.
Lansbury Retail has been given the green light, following a public inquiry, reports BBC Essex.

They will build a DIY superstore at Fossetts Farm.

The new development means Southend are likely to build their new stadium on the same site, subject to planning permission being given by the council.

Woweeeee

Just heard the news on BBC Essex. Prescott has given the B&Q development the green light. Let's hope that Martin Dawn have the plans ready to whack into the council.

I thought that that was all agreed in the contract signed between Lansbury and Martin Dawn about 18 months ago!

Ah, but having not seen the contract, I am cynical that such a pre-agreement exists.

I hope it is in the contract. I really do.

Bloody good news But until the plans have been properly submitted and accepted by the council I still reserve judgement!

I think from memory that  a deal on the land required at Fossets Farm was agreed but would only swing into place if B&Q was passed for development. We should now own the necessary land to build our new stadium subject to planning permission.

However Prescott will have know about all the other developments hinging on his decision so I would assume that he will not call our application in. Therefore the council should nod our appllication through knowing that re-development of Roots Hall will regenerate that area of the town.

Well fingers crossed!

That's definitely one good reading of it. What does this mean to Delancey? Will they stay as backers now?

That's the most important question to my mind.

If Delancey pull out nad call in the debt (i know thy have said they won't but....) we could have finally got to the stage of having the land for the new stadium but not have a team to play there!

Do we reckon SUFC have plans fo the new satdium or will we have to wait 6 months for them to cobble something together?

I know we had plans beofre but that was when we had the whole site to build on wasn't it?

I hope that all the plans are ready. They've had enough bloomin' time to do it ... !!

What? Southend United are thinking of moving from Roots Hall? Since when? Why?

This is a disgrace. Roots Hall is our traditional home. We are The Shrimpers... not The Blues... even though blue is our traditional colour.

This is f**king disgrace.

Ron Martin Said on BBC Essex @ 12.30 that plans will be submitted within 6 Months with an expected Build Time of 16 Months so expect to be in the New Stadium in 2 Years.

(Subject to acceptance by the Council)

Plans submitted within 6 months? They've had long enough to have them ready by now surely?!

There's probably more to it - particularly if there were conditions attached to Two Jags' acceptance of the Lansbury development... so perhaps the 6 months are just an allowance of time Ron is giving to dot the I's and cross the T's in order to prevent further delays....
