True, but that was only because Bramble was even worse than Gray! So, yes, we didn't hit a target man, we just hit the ball long into space on the wings for Gray and whoever else to chase. Isn't that more hit and hope than playing the long ball to a player?

Maybe it's got blurred with time, but I don't remember us playing that way at all when Gray (and Bramble) were here. I remember our midfield being a lot more involved in building through the middle.

No I agree with you. When we had Theo Robinson upfront we'd often play direct balls up to him to run onto but not so much with Wayne Gray.

I remember our midfield being involved, but I'm not sure it was any more involved than now.

Ironically there were plenty of people who complained about going through our midfield because Maher only evey played the ball sideways. (I don't think that was true, but people certainly complained about it.) I guess you can't win either way!
