My commute this morning was once more rudely interrupted by a police convoy.
The convoy consisted of two unmarked, brown, presumably armour-plated vans flanked by two police cars in front and a further two behind, plus some motorbike outriders.
The convoy was heading East out of the City. The police pulled up at the junction to block any cars pulling out and the convoy hurtled through without any regards to the colours of the traffic lights. This is not an unfamiliar occurrence and always seems to happen at the same time of the morning, although I've yet to detect any pattern in the day it happens (today's the last day of the month though...).
Anyone know what is contained in these vans and where they are heading? I think I may have asked this question before and Stansted has been mentioned.
How do you go about getting a police escort? I quite fancy not having to wait for the traffic lights and sending police off ahead to ensure I don't have to slow down at junctions or stop at lights.
Is this like a taxi service that I can ring up and book? Do you have to pay for the privilege? Am I, the tax-payer, funding this? Are the police accepting backhanders from someone running late? Is anyone planning on holding up the convoy?
