I first felt a fist, and then a kick
I could now smell their breath
They smelt of pubs and wormwood scrubs
And too many right wing meetings
My life swam around me
It took a look and drowned me in its own existence
The smell of brown leather
It blended in with the weather
It filled my eyes, ears, nose and mouth
It blocked all my senses
Couldnt see, hear, speak any longer
And Im down in the tube station at midnight
I said I was down in the tube station at midnight

(Drum Roll..........)

The last thing that I saw
As I lay there on the floor
Was "jesus saves" painted by an atheist nutter
And a british rail poster read "have an awayday - a cheap holiday -
Do it today!"
I glanced back on my life
And thought about my wife
’cause they took the keys - and she’ll think it’s me
And I’m down in the tube station at midnight
The wine will be flat and the curry’s gone cold
I’m down in the tube station at midnight
Don’t want to go down in a tube station at midnight

The Jam are better then pink floyd no doubt about it!

While we're doing the Jam lyrical thing:

Better stop dreaming of the quiet life -
'Cause it's the one we'll never know
And quit running for that runaway bus -
'Cause those rosy days are few
And - stop apologising for the things you've never done,
'Cause time is short and life is cruel -
But it's up to us to change
This town called malice.

Rows and rows of disused milk floats
Stand dying in the dairy yard
And a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk
Bottles to their hearts
Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry
It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come
Fast and furious
In a town called malice.

Struggle after struggle - year after year
The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice -
I'm almost stone cold dead
In a town called malice.

A whole street's belief in sunday's roast beef
Gets dashed against the co-op
To either cut down on beer or the kids new gear
It's a big decision in a town called malice.

The ghost of a steam train - echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere -
Just going round and round
Playground kids and creaking swings -
Lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will -
But I'd sooner put some joy back
In this town called malice.

Oh dear God ... i'm f*cked this time surely :(

I so wanted to draw The Stones in the semi's ... damn you Cricko :guns: :p

In truth when this started out i didn't think i'd make it past the first round, obviously getting The Verve helped as apart from one album i didn't really rate them.. in fact i saw them supporting Oasis at The Cliffs Pavillion and they were utter sh!te (though it was pre-Urban Hymns), onto Muse and i was pleasantly surprised how comfortable it was (thanks to all that voted for me, i did pass +rep where i could !!!). But this is something entirely different, if i had to list my favourite 3 bands of all time then The Jam would be VERY close behind The Beatles.. but Pink Floyd are MY BAND (not literally of course :D ), from about 1983 when i used to play my dads vinyl copy of Dark Side of the Moon... unremoved from the Billboard Hot 100 for the first 14 years of its existance it is, quite simply, the greatest album of all time.

Now although i have my moments, i'm not really that eloquent (stands by to wait for evidence to come crashing down in droves) so i can't really put forward an educated reason of why you should Vote Floyd and i'm certainly not going to go down the road that many have and slate the opposition, especially as i rate them so highly.. let me just say

There's only one thing to do here: go home, listen to some Jam, then listen to some Floyd, and decide with the music at hand to aid my deliberations...

I think he is writing his Lecture as we type Ben ;)

Indeed i was sir ...

PINK FLOYD - TIME

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
Its good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Very well put, (I could not have argued for the Clash over the Jam for example).

How can anyone take a Middle aged ,Upper Middle class , bloke saying "Oi Teacher leave those kids alone" seriously when you know full well that any kids who wnt within 100 yards of their country home would get an asbo slapped on them before they could take a breath
