The Wire

ive only watched the first episode of the first series of the sopranos (the pilot) and it didn't grab me. i'm sure i'll like it if i stick with it

It doesn't, not till around episode 8 I think... But it's a monumental piece of television. The only series i've been able to compare to The Wire in terms of writing, acting and story, and the dark humour is amongst the best ever written.

Oh I dunno ESB! Last one with Jack & co coming back the Island and meeting Sawyer!

WTF is all that about?

Exactly my point...

When Lost was originally written, it was planned for 4-5 series, tops. Fox got hold of it, realised its potential after 1 series and then demanded it be extended to 7 series, leading the writers to stretch a story to breaking point and fill the tears with filler... Which is why I can't help but think an awful amount of what has happened previously is a crock of sh*t, and it's beginning to tail off now.

You feel for the characters, despite the fact they're murdering criminals. Especially Bobby and Silvio. Brilliant writing, acting and the music Mr Pubester!

Lost though can just about take a running jump at the moment. I've continued with it, as if I don't I'll feel like i've been robbed, but the story arc at the moment is just ridiculous.

I feel a bit like this with Battlestar Galactica.

It's become so rushed at the end to start explaining what the hell is going on, that its seemingly spiraling out of control and having to rely on long winded excuses for exposition to get a simple point across. And yet still managing to waste 10 or 20 minutes of every episode on long drawn out sequences or filler stories.

All hope is not lost yet, but these last 2 or 3 hours have got to be pretty bloody special if they're going to drag these last few episodes up to the consistently standard of the first 2 and a half seasons.

Well I finished it last night. The last 4 episodes saved series 5 for me, as it was a bit average until that point.

WHAT DO I DO NOW. EH?!?!?

I can't really agree with EastStandBlue about Lost, to be honest. For a start whilst it was planned for five series and the studio demanded six, the final three seasons have all been abbreviated to 16 epsides a piece so essentially it IS two seasons which are just being stretched over three years.

I'm just going along for the ride with Lost now. It's such a different show to the one that they started and a lot of that is due to JJ Abrams having little to do with it nowadays. There's never been very much in the way of filler in there though. If anything the problem now is that they are squeezing too much into each episode because they only have another 30 or so left. That's probably why they had all the timetravel stuff because they didn't have time to tell things like Rousseau's backstory.

It's still an absolutely cracking show though. It's just not one about a bunch of plane crash survivors anymore.

Just watched another two episodes. I should go out and get some daylight althoiugh I'm half tempted to finish off season three today.

No. Must. Stop. Watching. The Wire......

Shame they made them watch season 5, as (in my book) its the weakest of the show's run. But it's great reading...

FYI: 5 < 1 < 2 < 4 < 3

my order is probably:

5 < 1 < 3 < 2 < 4,

haven't watched 4 or 5 for a 2nd time yet, so it could change after repeat viewings.

After I watched them for the first time my order probably went:
5 < 2 < 3 < 1 < 4, so obviously changed quite a bit. I absolutely love Series 2 now.

Yeah I'll be interested if things change second time around. I want to watch Series 2 more than any of the others. And 3 had loads of comedic moments I cherished.

I think 4 may have been my personal favourite of the lot, except the storyline at the crux of the season (I won't give it away here) took a bit too long to unravel.

But Cutty and the kids were all awesome, as was Prezbo.

I think the child actors are the most impressive part of the cast of The Wire, series 4 and 5 are incredible in terms of the acting/scripts. I heard they were an absolute nightmare to work with though!

Currently watching 3, it's very funny, but also has a couple of slower episodes.
