Sorry to interrupt but did you know that David Howell Evans AKA The Edge was born in Barking ???
I mean not strictly fitting criteria I know but if the trains were on time he could have been in town within 30-40 mins!

I'm not going to be around on Thursday so could you plonk this up for me please Paulie? Cheers.

What more can be said about 'The Bard Of Canvey,' the wonderful one-off that is Wilko Johnson?

Well, here's a few things you may not know but probably do ...

1. Wilko is a former Westcliff High pupil who reportedly lost his virginity on the train from Leigh to Benfleet.

2. His childhood sweetheart and future wife Irene bought him his first guitar on HP from a music shop near Southend Pier from her Post Office savings.

3. Wilko modelled his distinctive "slice and dice in 4/4 time" choppy playing style on that of Mick Green from The Pirates. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBfZ8VxsAUk

4. He also co-wrote a storming song for Dr Feelgood with Green - 'Going Back Home.' > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFcgVJjzwao

5. Wilko was an English teacher at King John in the early 1970s. On sunny days, he'd take his students outside and get them to look at the clouds.

6. Wilko used to live in Clatterfield Gardens in a house overlooking the tennis courts at Prittle Brook.

7. Before Feelgoods gigs, Wilko used to be locked in the van whilst the other members of the band loosened up at the bar.

8. Wilko formed The Solid Senders after being sacked from the Feelgoods.

9. Wilko has performed regularly with bassist Norman Watt-Roy (and various drummers) in a three-piece band for nearly 30 years.

10. Wilko is on a farewell tour of various venues around the UK next month.
