This weeks installment:

Revelling in it

At the time of me writing this, we are preparing to make the long journey up to Scunthorpe for what will be one of the hardest games we’ll play this season. However, by the time you read this we hope to have put in a performance up there, and returned with at least a point for our troubles.

I’ve no doubt that if we start like we did on Saturday then we are fully capable of leaving Glanford Park with all three points.

We’ve been a bit sluggish from the off recently but it was very pleasing to get at Swindon straight away. We deservedly took the lead and were by far the better team for the majority of the first half.

However for some reason, maybe complacency, we allowed them back into the game and made life hard for ourselves. They came out fighting, scored their equaliser and we then had to raise our game in order to get the victory. Thankfully we were able to and we ground out a deserved win in the end.

Personally I think I did well (scoring the second best header in the game!) and I’ll take this opportunity to clear up my celebration for those who don’t know.

Celebration Part 1:

Sometimes when you score, you actually do not know what to do next, such is the unexplainable feeling it creates, and it spurs you on to do things you wouldn't normally do, such as robots dances etc. It meant a heck of a lot to score my first goal at Roots Hall and I’m not blind in that people, rightly so, expect more from me and that I haven’t covered myself in glory since I came here. What happened on Saturday was a great weight lifted off my shoulders and I hope to have proved a few of my doubters wrong.

Most of all I felt relief, almighty relief, hence the over elaborate celebration!

Celebration Part 2 - The wobbly dance:

There are a few people who noticed this, and despite the rumours, no it’s not because I’m pregnant!!! Last Wednesday Macca and I played golf with his car sponsor Mark Coshever of Essex Car Rentals and his mate Ozzy, and we agreed that if one of us scored in the game then we’d do a celebration for him.

Then as we arrived on Saturday we went to see Mark beforehand and was greeted with him stuffing his face with food – so the celebration selection was easy after that, and whilst he didn’t look to happy at the time, his mates loved it!

Taking into account the Scunthorpe game we have a massive two weeks coming up, which could effectively shape our season. We know there's a battle in all four games but are ultimately confident we can get a result from all four as long as we turn up, battle hard and take our chances (no pressure then, ha ha!).

I was quietly relieved to read Captain Barrett’s column in the matchday programme, and whilst the slating wasn’t as bad as I expected, I couldn’t let it go by unnoticed now could I?!!

What he said about Lee Barnard and myself is not only untrue, but based solely on jealously as the Mitchell brothers (Adam ‘Grant Mitchell’ Barrett and Peter ‘Phil Mitchell’ Clarke) could never have the bond that me and Barney do!

In addition to this, further to Adam’s internet experience last week, he has decided to enrol himself on a ‘Level 1 Computing’ course; the only problem is that the prospectus says that he’ll be using a PC and not the Commodore Amiga he was brought up on!

And speaking of educational courses, after the local press brought to life Kevin Betsy’s journalism dreams, he has revealed to the lads that this is not only true, but the real reason he stopped doing ‘Betsy’s Blog’ – it was so he could give more time to working on his real dream in life, to write an award winning love novel! It even has a title ‘Love, Honour and Betsy’!

Here’s my dish of the week for those of you who have been waiting for it:

‘Polpette al Forno’ – Beef meatballs, fire-roasted peppers, caramelised onions, chillies, garlic, pomodoro sauce, penne pasta and melted cheese.

Simply put, the poshest pasta bake on the market!

I’d like to finish this week on a serious note: a special mention goes out to each and every person who administered the minute silence for Sarah Abbott. It was a fantastic tribute to her life and I hope she’s looking down on us and that we’ll do her proud for the rest of the season.

Up the Blues!

Another quality installment. Perhaps this is the difference in being acceted and given time, compared to being hounded off the pitch like some of our former 'stars'.

Great post Revs. Nice to see him admit to not being at his best since coming here - hopefully he can push on now!

Good blog, and good player. I aired my views early on that he was more pony than horse, but I take that back recently. He looks alright and hopefully will improve even more.

Revs

Takes a big man to admit that.

More great stuff from Revs, a cult hero in the making (especially if he keeps scoring).

I would like to take some personal credit for this part of his article :) As I started the rumour :p

Excellent read as always.

I tell you what, he's made for a career in PR when he eventually gives up playing. Another top effort from the Revster - both on the pitch and in his blog.

Here's the latest episode - love the recipe this week!

Re’v’elling In It

I’ll talk about the Bristol nightmare in a minute but feel that to begin with, I should be the one to clear up the Scunthorpe shirt fiasco on behalf of the Club Shop/SUFC kit man.

Due to the continental spelling of my name (and the high volume of Revellinho shirts sold through the Club Shop!), the latest batch of v’s arrived the night before the Scunthorpe game. At 8am on the morning of the game the new yellow ‘Revell’ playing shirt (ironed and pressed, as requested!) was passed to the kit man Steve Parmenter. Steve then managed to leave the shirt in his van and as we travelled up to Scunthorpe I was coming to the conclusion that I might have to go ‘skins’ (which I know the female Blues supporters would have loved!) up at Glanford Park. Luckily Scrivs (the Press Manager) came to the rescue and bought it up with him when he came to report on the game.

Steve P gets a lot of stick at the Club, occasionally unfairly but there is no doubt where the blame lies on this one. And Steve if you’re reading this (although I’m also 78% sure he can’t read so he’ll never will), if you stopped joining in training so much and looked after your primary source of income as apposed to getting the YTS’s to do it (Barney isn’t the only one who bullies them, lol) then we wouldn’t have been in this mess!

And then there was Bristol.

Quite simply, we didn’t turn up, especially in the first half and if I’m being honest it could have been worse if it wasn’t for Feds in goal who kept us in the game as much as he could.

We all accept that we weren’t good enough and if we want to finish where we believe we are capable of this season, we need to restrict any chance of performances like that ever again.

Hopefully, by the time you read this we will have gone some way to redeeming ourselves with last night’s performance against Leeds United.

It is safe to say that Leeds are ‘the’ team to beat in this division, but then so are the Bristol Rovers and anyone else who could potentially provide a threat to our promotion campaign.

As bad as the cliché is we do need to take each game as it comes and as any team can beat anyone in this division, we need to make sure we get as many results at all times possible.

Personally, while I share as much blame as anyone else on Saturday, I thought I did ok, winning my headers and setting up two goals. But this means absolutely nothing to me if the seasonal points column doesn’t increase at 4.45pm on a Saturday afternoon.

Away from the field, I see Captain Marvel has had another pop at the Revster with his David Dickinson comments in the Echo last week (but quite why he wants to bring Adam Federici into the abuse is beyond me, ha ha!).

Whilst I respect the ageing centre back as a great leader of our Club, I refuse to take any tanage comments from anyone who makes Paul Scholes look like a bronzed Adonis!

Speaking of Barrett, he lost badly twice on Saturday, with him and Franno’s ‘Cholos’ getting a drubbing by me and Macca’s ‘Cabrones’ on the PSP on the trip down.

Those observant readers of my column will have noted that Macca turned out for the Cholos the other week, but with the founder members of the Cabrones (‘Hitman’ Barnard and ‘No Name’ Harding) both absent from the journey, I had to find another member to join the gaming elite. With Betsy writing a sonnet in the corner I was left with no other option than to swap my ration of Jaffa Cakes for the tenacious Irishman. After being given the option of moving to a bigger, more successful team (and on his agent’s advice!) Macca made the move across the aisle and played a major part in the drubbing that the Cholos received.

So not only did we win convincingly but we won with half a Cholo, ouch that’s got to hurt Mr Barrett!

Finally, my dish of the week, for my student followers out there:

‘Finely processed cod fillets, harnessed together in wheat panels, with a tomato glaze (fish finger and ketchup sandwiches!)

As ever, up the Blues!

Yeah, we'll let you off this time Revs as you did, you know... alright yesterday.

But don't let it happen again...

Yet more good stuff from Revs, and a top performance last night too. A Cult hero in my book already, hope he get's a goal v Col Ewe saturday.

Could say of late he's been a REValation!

Was quality last night, always getting back, winning all the headers, and even making sure the flick on's were finding Laurent....more to come I hope!
