Essex Cricket 2021

Glamorgan win toss at Sophia Gardens but can only muster 134 (S.Snater 6-39) after choosing to bat first.

What is the point in this stupid league Essex are in? Basically playing 4 friendlies now
The format doesn’t make sense to me but it’s worth noting that they haven’t finalised what division everyone will be in next year - it’s possible results from this will be taken into consideration.

Why it’s not just two divisions of 9 with promotion and relegation I don’t know. Either way next year will be a MESS.

It is a really rubbish format and there is no real reason for it, there were better solutions to reduce games. It is a bit of a dead rubber now we are in "division 2" as defending champions of division one but we may as well win it and pick up a trophy, albeit a pretty worthless one

Good from Essex.Porter has took 2 quick wickets.Gloucestershire are 28/2

This "division 2" looks far too easy for us. We could be looking at winning by an innings on our 1st 2 games. This format has not put the best with the best, hopefully it will be scrapped and return to 2 divisions next season.

We did indeed win by an innings, which I'm delighted about. I have to admit I'm totally and utterly lost as far as the League situation is concerned. I understand we're in League Two, so does finishing top give us promotion???? Or will this silly system, with a Championship season cut in two (no doubt to benefit the more commercial competitions), carry on into next season?
