Films you've watched recently.

Indeed.(Iknow I've got getting on for 4,000 CD's my JB7 tells me that.Unfortunately I don't have the time/energy to count the DVDs).

Not my scene. :Winking:
wow that’s impressive. Without wanting to sound-patronising, you clearly love your music, have you considered a better system. I get the convenience of what you have.

Most people have never heard. “Good system “ let alone an “excellent one”.
My brother in law has an excellent system and although I can’t justify that (£8000 plus) I can tell the difference with my “good” system, which again sounds very different to what most people have. Obviously “good” is subjective but you get my point. You have to hear something better to appreciate what you are missing

I live in hope that our younger daughter will marry her current partner (his Dad apparently owns a specialist hi-fi shop in Paris). Maybe I could get a decent discount from him on something better than I've already got? Until then I guess I'll just have to make do with my "convenient" system since ,like you, I don't really have 8,000 quid to spare for an "excellent" one.

(PS I should stress that I like our daughter's boyfriend anyway). :Winking:

The £8000 set up is obviously ridiculous, but you Can spend a fraction of that, on second hand kit that is very good, way under £1000 ( less than 500 is possible if you don’t need a record deck). Having said that I have no idea on availability in Spain.

My record deck is 34 years old and my amp aid 31 years old. Amazingly both are actually worth more second hand now than they were then but the amp section hand is far less than half the price of something new and as good ( both British, the record deck actually built inEastwood at Rayleigh weir by the go karts. “rega” . Nothing could touch them for the money.
Quality Second hand speakers and CD players are very cheap.
I have zero idea on the hard drive bit

Sounds like you're a lot more techie than I am.Guess I'll have to wait and see if I can have a chat with my future son-in-law's Dad for an upgrade. :Winking:

My brother in law lived at home until he was near 30 and then on his own so he could spend his money as he wanted. He is one of these people who goes to extremes, or simply doesn’t have something.
The £8000 might actually be an Under estimate. To give you an idea of the lengths he went to,
Record. Cleaner £600 ( normally only record shops have these and charge per record)
Mains power filter, socket block £400
Various internetconnects and cables £1000
Independent stands/isolation mats for each bit of kit - £800
So £2,800 before any actual kit ( CD player, record deck, pre amp, power amps, speakers, speaker stands !

The great thing is the better the system the more different stuff you listen to: appreciate I can’t explain why but it’s a well known phenomenon. you seem to do that already so wouldn’t gain that advantage .

Apologies for going off subject

Maragall y La Luna. (Maragall and the Moon).Powerful talking heads style documentary on Barcelona's ex-Mayor at the time of the 92 Olympics (who's currently suffering from Alzheimer's).This powerful film should really have been subtitled in Spanish.

News of the World, on netflix, Tom Hanks.
A Paul Greengrass film shot in faded light and just off focus, an okay watch but not great. Hanks is very good as per usual and carries the movie which would have been much less without him.

Thought it was better than you give it credit for.Like any Western, IMO, it really needs to be seen on the big screen.

I enjoy westerns, Open Range is, imo, best for many years, but N o t W doesn't have the same pace or development of characters.
Robert Duvall matches Hanks for screen presence too. The OR film/big space is better and sets a marker.
My other top Westerns? Big Country, The Searchers, , Shane, Wild Bunch, Stagecoach, Last of Moheccans, Wolves AND Lonesome Dove.

Diego Maradonna.

7.5/10 - The footage was amazing and his life was such a mad rush in the mid-late 80s that it is understandable how he ended up as he did.

That said I didn't think the film maker added much to the story - the footage mostly spoke for itself.

Haven't seen Open Range so can't really comment.Would agree with your list apart from Lonesome Dove ;which again I haven't seen.So can't comment.Perhaps Two Rode Together and Ride the High Country plus The Man from Laramie should also be on it.Also liked Shenandoah.
High Noon and Run of the Arrow.

Winchester 73 comes to mind too.
James Stewart? Iirc. Lots of these films were carried by the top actors, Stewart, , Wayne, Scott, Ford, Ladd, Peck, Heston etc.
And now that calibre of actor is largely missing, as are the scripts and plots.
Indeed many of the big stars of today are not young guns or of a suitable age for roles of young cowboys. Hanks, Duvell, Pitt, Costner, etc are all past the 50 yrs and seemingly there is a dearth of new 20/30 or 40 year old wannabe stars successful in making the top.

Anyone watched any of the Adam Curtis 'Can't get you out of my head' films on the BBC iPlayer? And more importantly, what it is all about?
Half way through, same as most Adam Curtis films the state of the world today and how we got here with some unconventional reference points. Very interesting as always
