know then for those of you watching southend away in the late 70s and 80s and travelling by train, you must have come across the strange man in glasses always seen with 2 massive bags sleeping in trains overnight, many an overnight trip was in a carriage with him and his bags. If my memory serves me right, he also supports brighton, speedway and cricket, and I believe had done every county cricket ground. anyway i digress.

there i was talking to rob newman outside the coach in the carpark, and there to my abosolute delight, was our odd man, except in 25 years what a change!!!. he was with another man, both now in the 50s dressed exactly the same, fairly bushy beards, and matching bobble hats, possibly his civil partner, or stool burglar, anyway, they had a young boy with them????

an adopted refugee perhaps, used for their own purposes.

anyway when he saw rob newman, he ran up the car park, holding a 6by4 print and proceeded to thrust it into his hand for signing.

a momentary smile flickered across his face as he spotted mine.
no doubt recalling the famous tuesday night trip to preston with the tree, basildon dave, and spotty and gary townsend.

strange days indeed
