To be honest Clarke did give 100 percent as he should do, i would expect any player pulling on a blues shirt to give just that. But the goals against column while partnering AB at the back didnt make good reading.Even though we seem to have struggled to find a replacement, im quite glad the partnership has been broken up.

I have to say though that both goals we conceded yesterday were sloppy and the sort we were regularly giving away with the Clarke-Barrett partnership but not the Clarke-Dervite (that's not a dig at Barrett whatsoever but in reference to the loss of Dorian). I sincerely hope that it's just because the defence need more games together or we could be in for a groundhog season.....

Heath did pretty well for most of yesterday but I'd like to see M'voto sometime soon as I really think someone who by all accounts is huge, dominant and very quick would (like Dervite did with Clarkey) bring out the best in Barrett and would compliment him well in the back 4.

Yep another 2 sloppy goals conceaded , very much from the same mould as Clarke/Barratt partenrship , make of it what you want , but Barratt is a much better left back for us and i can't wait for Mvoto to start playing .

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton striker Gordon Watson, who has been working as a scout for Leicester City for the last year, described Peter Clarke in the Southern Daily Echo's 16-page Saints Season Preview as "the best defender in the league last season".

LOLz

Seriously, that was so predictable. When was the last time you made a post that wasn't a dig at Adam Barrett? At a guess it was when you were too busy slagging off Freddy Eastwood.

In fairness I stopped slagging off Eastwood - his record speaks for itself. :p

I will continue to comment on Barrett when he continues to "marshall" a back four that concedes goals so like the start of this time last season. Still, only another two years left on his contract.

Blimey, I suggest who makes an immediate appointment at Specsavers.

Thank **** we're shot of him.

Typical display on Saturday, including getting caught out of position for our second goal. He also lost Heath for a free header from a free-kick which Heath should have done better with.

I'm getting sick of this rewriting of history. Peter Clarke wasn't even the best defender at Southend last season. For two and half seasons the Peter Clarke I saw gave 100% every game but usually gave away a penalty or a goal every game. His performances in the opening weeks of last season were very poor - Walsall and Crewe away spring to mind. He did improve after that and for the last 3 months of last season he was very reliable but even then he wasn't as good as Dervite.

I wonder if Tilly would bring in Mvoto to partner Heath and move Barratt to left back.

Clarkey got a decent reception Saturday, but I certainly wasn't clapping him though.

Theo Robinson though, a completely different story. I gave him a standing ovation when he was subbed off.

Indeed and Theo couldn't get off the pitch quick enough. And probably time to move this to ex Shrimpers now.

Delighted to see that Clarkey got the reception he deserved. I certainly applauded him just after half time and was pleased to see him clapping the crowd in return.

Top bloke who gave everything for SUFC (okay he was no Rio Ferdinand but this is League 1 let us not forget) and I wish him nothing but very the best in his future career.

Your old boy played well at the WHCS yesterday maybe all his moves were not within the rules of the game but hey he was pretty effective, for his team!
He spent a lot of time trying to wind up the South stand after getting the old reject chant a few times, Robinson got some stick as well but sensibly avoided getting involved. Boy is Robinson of a slight build he looked a lot thinner than when he played for you guys, given the size of our defenders he didnt look too keen to get involved and eventually was substituted. I dont think we would have won had Clarke stayed on the pitch but 2 yellows gave him an early bath, and lots of abuse as he left the field :)

Can imagine! Do you reckon it was the Southend thing that was responsible, I mean, let's not forget he was one of those taunting your lot at the end of our win there last season!
