Gambas is Spanish for prawn / shrimp. A slight modification might have sufficed, although it turned out not to be so!
current job I really want to work for Opta Sportsdata, and produce all the footy stats in the current bun!.....
Does anyone else feel slightly cheated that the bloke in the pram shop does infact not work in a pram shop?
I was actually taking the **** Mike but full respect to your mate anyway as it must be a rewarding job.
I will go for a Lion tamer now I think.
That's my Saturday job Dave. :guns:
Do you ever travel to the big ports here in Brasil Such as Santos, Vitoria ad Salvador
Shipping and export are huge here and I have some decent clients who are heavily involved.
Job -European Commercial manager for a Liner shipping Company.
Pro's - Money is ok and get to to travel.
Cons - Its a tired industry, that needs a thorough revamp.
Ambition - Run a Basil fawlty style hotel.
*WHAT YOU DO NOW: Sales and Marketing Manager for a niche business within the wholesale bank if Abbey National (effectively Banco Santander)
*PRO'S OF JOB - The money, the bonuses, the overseas trips (mainly because I organise the itinerary, allowing some ME time, no early morning meetings and cheap ciggies.
*CON'S OF JOB - Plenty, unlike my previous job where I could stroll in any time between 7.30am and 9 I have to be in by 7.45 or 8 at a push and rarely leave before 6.30, tonight was 8pm. Based in Euston so effectively I'm up at 5.45 and lucky if I'm home by 8. On the plus side my last place had a far east desk so I could get the occassional through the night call and I'd spend the train journey responding to a rammed full inbox on the Blackberry. Also the 3 months between jobs taught me that I haven't been putting the family second enough (naturally footie comes first :D ) and I've been trying to change that over the last few months which is difficult if I'm never around in the week.
*IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT I WOULD BE doing something involving driving, possibly a courier. When I'm not going to bed dreaming about Emma Bunton I'm often trying to work out where the missing niche in the market is. I've gone through all sorts over the last few weeks. I'm now debating how I could potentially make a going concern of either a model village, ice rink or holiday camp in Southend. :p
Strange how the perception is different with regards to owning a bar on the Med when you don't actually live on the Med. I always thought it would be quite an interesting project to own a bar at some point after I emigrated to Spain. I even had a potential name: Gamberros. (I thought it was related to Shrimpers but I very quickly discovered that it actually means 'hooligan' in Spanish! I then thought of 'Nzamba's Bar'.) Now that I have been here 3½ years, I wouldn't touch a bar with a very large extendable barge pole. The hours are very, very long; the competition is hugely fierce; NO-ONE makes any money without investing a HUGE amount of capital; the estimated lifespan of a new bar on the Costa Blanca is currently 14 months. I can think of over a dozen people I know who have been financially ruined by such a venture and thus ended their dream of "sun and partaay all the time" ...
Gambero is Italian for prawn, not Spanish.
If you are going to live in a foreign country you really should make an effort to fit in.....
:)
