I cannot work out which is worse, the ‘celebrities’ announcing on social media that they’re NHS volunteering or the people replying to them calling them attention seekers.

Just get along Jesus ****!

Like, ahem, Stanley Victor Collymore?

Amazon are normally pretty good with refunds

They might be when I finally get through to them. Been trying again this morning. They probably refund good because they know they are being naughty. They've been taking my money each month without the consent email they were meant to send(now changed that procedure). And now giving me all this hassle trying to contact them and get my money back.

I am trying to put my cynicism to one side but if I was a celebrity I would just do it. No need for self publicity, it would happen anyway...

Agreed. I live by my late father in law's manta: do lots, say little. He gave huge amounts of money to charity, but never once told anyone.

However, in this instance I don't think they're attention seeking for their own good. I think they're trying to bring attention to the fact that you can volunteer, and if they can then we all can.

As it happens my wife has also volunteered. Being a physio with ITU skills (albeit rather out of date) she may be asked to help, but it's more likely she won't be.

That happened to a mate of mine. He ended up negotiating to pay half for a few new fence panels, and a gardening firm to re align old fence posts. He said it was the best thing he ever did, even tho it cost him money, and that side of the fence was down to the neighbour.
In my road, the back garden fence on the left is down to you, and the right is down to the neighbour. Is that everywhere, does anyone know?

It's not a hard fast rule, but that how it is for me. Spent nearly £2k this summer, getting laylandii and other trees cut down and a new fence & gate installed on my side, replaced a few on his side but not the one that needs a new post. He also has a bare asbestos panel as well (it's covered on my side with a sheet of metal). He really is a lazy *******.

Next time I move house I will have that put on the Buying Questions, "Is, are any of the neighbours lazy ****ers who don't up keep their property and in particular boundary fences?"

Pretty standard I believe...except our house. We own all our fences!

Was about to order a book about HMS Victory for £12.99 from Portsmouth , then found out they wanted £11.99 postage , I think I will leave it in Portsmouth .

For some reason that has reminded me of a story about a golf club! Someone I used to work with (at an American investment bank) in Canary Wharf was seriously into his golf. He wanted to buy a new driver but it was very expensive. It was much cheaper in the States though. So he had it bought for him by an American colleague who put it in the internal mail for him!

Ah. This is fraught with danger. Few years back (in a decent summer) a workmate won a golf umbrella. He left it in the corner of his office for days. So I opened it, filled it with hole-punching and some chopped lettuce. Anyway one day it went. "How was your umbrella?" I asked him. "Oh I didn't want a red one so I sent it back"....

The kids next door don't seem to be doing much learning, instead there's an incessant bouncing ball noise as they play basketball - they're 6 and 8, the younger one is also very whiny! It's driving us mad already.

Trying to figure out what help I get as a self employed taxi driver. My daily takings are now around £60 per day and that’s before the daily bills.
That's more than hubby was taking, Benfleet station was rammed with drivers. He's given up and taken a job in a pharmaceutical warehouse for the time being, treated like agency staff there. He hates it, but until there's better support for the self employed, there's not a lot of choice.

My job's been furloughed from 1st April. It's frustrating because I could drive to the office and go in on my own, keep the front door locked and do absolutely loads of admin - scanning and breaking down files, and really sorting out and scanning loads of our management files to condense them.

So I looked at my bank statement today to see how much left for shopping this week. Shock horror, Amazon have just taken £7.99 from me. Checked back and they have been taking it each month for months. Like a lot of people, last year I signed up to the prime membership for a free month, as I ordered something and they offered next day free delivery with prime. I only ordered one thing. At the time they were meant to send me an email at the end of free trial for me to click on becoming a paid member or not. I didn't get the email, but they signed me up anyway, and didn't send me a welcoming email, to let me know. They have now changed this....While you won't be charged for your free trial, you'll be automatically converted to a paid membership plan at the end of the trial period. For more information, go to Turn off your Amazon Prime renewal. This was after thousands of complaints, and Martin Lewis getting involved, suggesting it's like a scam, but very surprising from such a massive company that doesn't need the money.
So anyway, I go on to Amazon, cancel my prime, order refund of £7.99. You can only order one months refund on site. But now want all the rest of my money back. So go on chat, and answer questions by bot, not person, multiple questions and multiple answers. Told to phone for call back. Call back not working as told, so told to phone Amazon. Phoned Amazon, voice message saying phones not working, go back to answer questions with bot.
Ggrrr.
So now more hassle trying to speak to someone, and trying to get my money back.

Update. Phoned all this morning, phone line down. Phoned about 2 hours ago, and new coronavirus message, saying not taking any phone calls for the foreseeable future. So back on the live chat on the laptop. After much negotiation, trial and error, because if I answered the questions correctly, it just kept telling me to phone them. I finally get a live chat person I can type to after about an hours wait. After telling her I never signed up for Prime and want all my money back, she said she had just refunded me £7.99, Ggrr. I explained going back and forth with her for ages that again, I want all my money back that they had wrongly taken. She then said, as a special case, she had just refunded 3 months. Ggrr. More arguing, and I finally get a full refund. Dear oh dear. She had a foreign name, the online call center was probably in another country. It was like we were speaking different languages. What a terrible company.

The wife comes home form work ( She work's for Sainsbury in Basildon).
I ask how it was today although she did look somewhat stressed.
"i've been coughed at,sneezed on and trodden on and to top it all some silly bint tried to take 4 items when she could only have 2! when i explained she said she was having a dinner party.
Wish i hadn't asked and good luck Boris there really is some thick ****s our there.

People seem to think that the motorways are now their personal race track. Saw a Ferrari going the other way that must’ve been doing well over 130mph.
