"Kites came in the day after the play-offs and said he wants the number seven shirt for next season. I've told him that unless we sign David Beckham then it's his."

LOL!! I would love it if they signed Beckham.

Well Done to the lad he has done well. As much as I hate him as a person he has achieved what a lot of young strugglers dream of, and to have attracted attention from Sir Alex Fergusson is an acalade that players would give up sex for!

How far he has come from being the skinny, spotty, arrogant little **** that used to play for us!

Well Done.

Riiiiicey my son - LET. IT. GO.

;)

yep well done kights and i doubt he would be anywhere near the level he is if it wasn't for us getting rid of him

our clever management thought it wise to let him go!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no way he would have made it that far if we hadn't have dropped him. Same as Eastwood wouldn't have made it as far as he has without West Ham dropping him.

Some players need to take a step back to go forward.

Kightly always showed talent and we let him go.

Lawson was utter ****e and imo never showed any talent whatsoever so what do we do? Give him a contract for afew years. Yeh....Good move that.

Exactly, spot on!

Kightly is not recognisable as the same player he was when playing for us.
Some players need the scare of dropping into non-league to kick start their careers (i.e. Collymore & Eastwood)

He has knuckled down & is getting his reward.

Well done son, next stop the Prem & a place in the full England side.

Hardley given a proper run in the team though was he. Lawson was given so long to show talent and showed nothing. Why was Lawson given so long and Kightly shown the door?

So what you are saying is our management our total setup in fact could not bring this player to the level he is now!!! don't make me laugh!

No. Because reserve team football is knowhere near as competative as the level Grays were playing at.

It was a great move for him.

As much as you just made me? Ha ha!

It's not so much about that, as it is timing. No-one doubted his ability, you just had to watch him in the warm ups to see how good his control was. His problem was his size. He was pushed off the ball too easily. Now he has filled out, and is stronger he is fulfilling his potential. A move to non league where the play is rather more agricultural has probably also helped!

Do you think we should have held on to him, and left him in the reserves for about 3 years just in case he beefed up? That is a risk a financially strapped club like we were then just couldn't afford to take. And do you think him languishing in our reserves would have motivated him to improve like the move to Grays did?

I think you are suffering from a severe case of hindsightitis, or should that be hindsighteyetis!
