This historical broadcast of Saturday Night Noxious Society on Coast FM saw multi-instrumentalist Roger Heathers play live in the studio. Roger brought us tracks from his new album, ‘To Your Heart’s Content’, and a personal favourite, ‘Captain Liebherr.’ We’d never had anyone play live on the show before and Roger was not only brave in risking his reputation with thelimited levels of soundmanship before him but also brilliant in hisperformance.

This was also bang in the middle of the 40[SUP]th[/SUP]anniversary of the recording of the eponymous debut album of The Clash so wehad that as our featured album.

Talking about live, he did play a summer gig at the Pueblo Espanyol in Barna a few years ago, which I managed to miss.Heard he was excellent though.Certainly that Sugarman documentary on him a few years back was wonderful.Good to know he now has an international audience outside South Africa.

Ha! Saw The Fall (back in the day) at Béziers bull ring in a concert that is still much talked about (by some) here.

Didn't do anything for me I'm afraid.

The best way to cope with a crushing defeat and berate a cat who may have contributed to the disaster is by baring it all on international radio with a fellow Southend fan as co-presenter. Here's last night's edition of 'Saturday Night Noxious Society' (just as A Cat Called Chicken) dives on the laptop table once again >

Yes, Al - I remember that 'Really Free' record from way back in '78. Saw him play at Reading that year too with Wild Willy Barrett. A true nutter. I don't have any of his records though.

Always a delight to hear His Omniscience Flash Boredom’s cracking vinyl … and with just ourselves in the Coast FM Studios, we could crank it up and have a right old jolly. Some anniversaries to reflect on too … the start of Paul Simon’s first tour without Art Garfunkel in 1973, the death of Errol Brown two years ago today and Bob Seger’s 72[SUP]nd[/SUP] birthday … with some suitable tunes in association. All this and our selection of music from a local band. This week the wheel of fortune revolved in the direction of Penzance’s Small Town Doggers and an offering from their fantastic album, ‘Friday Night **** Fight Club.’ Tune into this recording of ‘Saturday Night Noxious Society’ and be a groovy funker!

All of us here at ‘Saturday Night Noxious Society’ are delighted that Wreckless Eric is coming out to play in Penzance next week as part of his 40[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary tour of touring. As you’ll remember, Eric was part of that Stiff Records Tour that traversed Blighty back in 1977, the year of the release of his wonderful ‘Whole Wide World.’ This show is a celebration of Eric and his enduring magnificence up on stage. We played some of Eric’s old songs, newish songs and inbetween-ish songs to reflect the years in which “the most famous underground artist in the world” has been doing his own most distinctive thing. We also celebrated the birthdays of Pete ‘Overend’Watts, Stevie Wonder and Alison Goldfrapp with some appropriate tracks from their glorious histories. All this and Flash Boredom’s fantastic vinyl too. You lucky people!

We welcomed back His Eminence Emeritus Professor Martin E. Madron to the Coast FM Studios on the very week-end that ‘Twin Peaks’ is due to return to international television nearly 25 years ago after it was last broadcast. It was a truly ‘Welcome Back’ juxtaposition of fantastic happenings. And, as we know, historic happenings demand historic records. Luckily, we had them in abundance as well as almost contemporaneous offerings from Penzance bands Die Spangle and Small Town Doggers. It was a fantastic show as you will find out at the press of the right button. His Omniscience Flash Boredom was unable to join us due to extra-curricular commitments but we are pleased to report that he gets honorary mentions here in his absence. We look forward to welcoming Flash back to his broadcasting brilliance next week.

So we had this Flash special a week early instead. Flash takes us through his very earliest record memories – including what he first remembered hearing on the radio, the first record that he bought and various other special vinyl moments through to a record that changed his life. Join us if you please for ‘The Flash BoredomYears’ – it’s a marvellous personal memento from a marvellous public service broadcaster.
