I seem to be older than most people on the board but I'd nominate Peter Taylor great player for us, been a manager and beat Judas Fry in first game (though later record not great) and every Team he brings to RH as opposition we seem to beat quite easliy - plus he is born and bred and still lives locally

VOTE FOR SPUD!!

Roy Hollis to this day still SUFC top goalscorer
Sam McCrory still to this day i believe the only SUFC player to play for a major international team whilst still playing at SUFC.
SVC and Chris Powell both excelled at Sufc and whose careers blossomed afterwards with call ups to play for England and both who have come back to SUFC afterwards.
KM Most games played for SUFC now manager of SUFC.

I dont understand why it should be limited to just 12 people , if they are true legends of the club and have given great service to our club both as a player or manager during and after their careers as a player etc, Mate even the physio and boot cleaner i believe gave great service to the club, why restrict it to just players.

Sorry for the ranting on , its just that i can remember so many players BBC was one that praised the physio we had that left a couple of seasons ago how good he was , Think how he must have helped prolong some of the players careers, its people like that physio do a selfless job without the recognition they deserve and im sure there are many.

You have to understand this thread is 12 years old!

Mere longevity should not be sufficient to gain entrance, instead it should be limited to those who made a substantial impact, displayed greatness and left a legacy. Honours achieved during their stay should be adduced in a candidate's favour, as should their subsequent career if they were remembered as a Southend graduate. The only rule will be that they have to have left the club at least two years ago.

The way this will work is that every so often I will open a thread asking for nominations. SZ posters can nominate only one individual per round of nominations, so you'll need to think carefully over who you want to propose.

Whoever has received the most nominations shall go forward to a ballot. An individual (it doesn't have to be a player, we can nominate chairmen, managers, groundstaff, anyone who has been one of the key dozen or so figures in Southend United's history) will have to have received at least 5 nominations though. Candidates will then have to receive 90% of the votes and at least 30 votes to be inducted into the SZ Southend United Hall Of Fame. In case of any disputes my decision shall be final.

There are a number of people who should now be considered for a variety of reasons - Kevin Maher and Adam Barrett are probably the two most obvious, but you also have Ryan Leonard, John White (not yet eligible under the criteria as far as I can recall) and even Dan Bentley.

Still amazes me that Paul Clark and Ronnie Pountney went to a 2nd vote!
